Provisional Membership Status

Ask any member of the Junior League of Harrisburg and she will tell you that her Provisional Year was a wonderful experience—for building new friendships, learning about the community, and for making a positive impact on the local community.  New members bring enthusiasm, energy and fresh perspectives on the many ways in which the League can help the community.

Provisional members are new members who are preparing to become Active members of the Junior League Harrisburg by attending monthly membership meetings, participating in service projects and fundraisers, and learning about the various committees and functions of the League.  Each Provisional member must complete a mandatory training period, which typically runs from September through April, before becoming an active voting member of the Junior League of Harrisburg.

This training program provides basic information about the Junior League of Harrisburg’s mission, goals and objectives, its organizational structure, and its community involvement, which includes service and fundraising projects.  Provisional members are asked to take an active role in the League’s projects throughout the year and, in addition, each Provisional class works together on a group project. 

Provisional members must share an interest in volunteerism, a commitment to community service, and a willingness to devote significant time and effort as a volunteer.  The Junior League of Harrisburg also holds various social functions throughout the year, providing a great opportunity to meet new people and develop long-lasting friendships.

New members are accepted September 1 through October 13.  Prospective members who have not enrolled by October 13 may join the following year.  Please download the application and submit it to the Junior League of Harrisburg.

All Provisional members must meet the following requirements during to become eligible for Active membership status:

• Female of at least 21 years of age upon applying for provisional membership

• Complete Junior League of Harrisburg application and submit provisional dues in the amount of $135.00 (annual dues, $100.00, one time provisional fee, $35.00) on or before the October provisional meeting (dues are not refundable)

• Attend General Membership meetings, held on the third Wednesday each month from September - May

• Attend one Board of Directors meeting, held once a month from September - May

• Attend all Provisional class meetings, held an hour before the General Membership meeting on the third Wednesday of each month
