Message from Alison Ballantine President of the Junior League of Harrisburg It is a true honor to serve as President of the Junior League of Harrisburg. I am honored and humbled to follow in the footsteps of those who came before me and I am very excited to help provide our current membership with all of the opportunities that the Junior League has to offer.
After growing up in the Harrisburg area, I joined the Junior League of Harrisburg in 2001. My experience within the Junior League includes: Recording Secretary, Special Events committee member, Co-Chair of Holiday Breakfast, Co-Chair of Meetings Committee, Chair of Community Outreach Committee, VP of Community, and President-Elect. Outside of the Junior League I have been a teacher, a small business owner, and I am currently focusing on raising my children Sally (7), Eleanor (4 ½), and Axel (3) with my husband Peter.
As with many Junior Leagues, our league has gone through a number of changes in the past decade. When I began to work on our strategic plan, it became very clear that our current structure and by laws needed to be updated in order to fit the current size and needs of our membership. Thanks to those who served on our strategic planning committee last year and our current board members, we are steps away from presenting our new by laws and straw ballot. Stay tuned! The goal is to get organized so that the majority of our efforts can be focused on creating meaningful impact in our community. Another very important goal for the next couple of years is to improve our financial stability. We have a number of fundraising opportunities this year and I have strong hopes that we are going to be successful! During our 2010-2011 Leadership Retreat, our Leadership Team began to lay the groundwork and we are currently finalizing our big projects for the year. We hope to have 100% participation in the following events: Happy Hour Event Holiday Breakfast Kids in the Kitchen Bargain Box Wine Event There will also be a variety of Done in a Day type volunteer projects, training, and social opportunities provided throughout the year. We are going to work hard, become trained volunteers, and make friends, all while serving our community. Sincerely, Alison Ballantine President of the Junior League of Harrisburg
